Invitation to join BCStars and our Web Hub

Are you interested in being part of a community in BC whose members create, discuss and promote tapestry?

The British Columbia Society of Tapestry Artists (BCStars), a registered charitable non-profit Society formed in 1993, has been recently revived. Volunteers are exploring avenues to build a community for tapestry artists and for potential projects.

The mandate of BCStars is to “promote the art of tapestry through exhibitions, lectures, classes, projects, symposia, publications, and other means.” Previous BCStars activities have included the Making a Place for Tapestry Symposium (1993); a workshop with Archie Brennan (1996); the Dr. Peter Community Tapestry Project (1996), woven collaboratively by BC tapestry weavers in the Vancouver Public Library; two publications (Making a Place for Tapestry, 1993; Weaving between the Lines, 2000) and various exhibitions and lectures.

We are planning a conference focussed on tapestry weaving September 30, 2027 to October 5, 2027 to be held in Duncan in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. It will be held in conjunction with the opening of a retrospective of the weaving and art of Linda Wallace at the Cowichan Valley Public Art Gallery. We would love to learn of your ideas for workshops, seminar topics, presenters at the conference. What would entice you to attend? We’d love to hear from you!

Our website is currently under construction. You can checkin as we build the site at tapestrybc.ca.

If you are interested in joining in this conversations as we build our virtual tapestry weaving community, we welcome your involvement; please contact Jenn with your thoughts and ideas at hello@tapestrybc.ca
